Arizona Western's volleyball team continued its impressive start to the new season by defeating Mesa in straight sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-21. Mesa entered the contest coming off its first 20 win season since 2017 and sports a 1-0 record. Arizona Western cruised through the first two sets but some resistance from the Thunderbirds in the third. With the score tied at 10 in the third set, Mesa scored nine of the next 10 points including eight unanswered. The Matadors rallied to tied the score at 21, then took the next four points behind the powerful serves from freshman Blanca Terminel Lopez. Terminel Lopez, Sevval Aslan and Esther Asiedu led the Matadors with six kills each. Nanami Nobuhara led AWC with 11 digs. Arizona Western will next be in action on September 5th against Midland College.
