YUMA, Ariz---Another post-season appearance has produced four Lady Matadors on the All-ACCAC Teams, the conference announced.
Sophomore Vera Asare was named to the first team while fellow sophomore Elizabeth Ephraim and freshman Karen Rivas earned second team recognition. Freshman Eliani Neri rounds out the Matador's recognized making the Honorable Mention list.
Asare added to her legacy at Arizona Western as a sophomore with a double-digit goal season while adding seven assists. Asare will finish her time in Yuma as one of the most prolific goal scorers in program history and showcased her rare combination of size and speed while taking on more responsibilities as a team captain. The native of Accra, Ghana, came to Yuma in 2018 and was a part of the most successful season in Lady Matador soccer history.
Her fellow Ghanan sophomore, Elizabeth Ephraim earned second team recognition while leading the conferece in points with 36 and the conference in assists with 16. Ephraim transformed into a reliable playmaker for Arizona Western as a sophomore and delivered some spectacular multi-goal and multi-point performances amidst the Matador's 10-match unbeaten streak in '19.
Another second team performer is Yuma native and Kofa High Graduate, Karen Rivas. Rivas has dazzled in her freshman season with two four-goal performances, and twelve total goals in her first sixteen matches. The forward has shown a knack for creating shots for her and her team while leading the Matadors in goals this season.
The other freshman from Yuma to be honored by the conference is Eliani Neri, a midfielder on the honorable mention squad. Neri delivered a key goal in the Matadors win over Phoenix for her first collegiate goal, but has been a steady prescence for Arizona Western as a freshman. Neri also tallied 11 assists but was often the engine generating the offense.
Arizona Western continues the impressive run by hosting Pima on Tuesday night at the Matador Soccer Field in Yuma at 6:00pm.
