YUMA, Ariz. – A historic regular season is in the books, but the Arizona Western College women’s soccer team is still writing its own story and adding to the record book. Tuesday, the team was ranked first in the NJCAA Poll for the first time in team history.
The Lady Mats went 3-0 last week to wrap up the regular season 20-0 (best regular season in team history). AWC won on the road at Cochise (3-0), Mesa (4-0) and Paradise Valley (1-0).
Following the season, Christiana Boateng was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and she was named an All-ACCAC First Teamer along with Asare Vera and Karen Melendrez. Goalkeeper Cyan Scott was named to the All-ACCAC Second Team, and Cato Hom was named on All-ACCAC Honorable Mention.
First year head coach Nicole Acosta was also named the ACCAC Coach of the Year after leading the team to its first conference title in team history.
Tomorrow, the team will host the Region I Semifinals against Scottsdale Community College at 6:00 p.m. No passes will be accepted, and tickets are $5. AWC students can get in for FREE by signing in at the gate.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
