YUMA, Ariz. – Fresh off the best start in team history, the Arizona Western College women’s soccer team is also ranked seventh in the first NJCAA poll of the regular season, the highest ranking in team history. AWC was ranked 15th in the preseason poll.
The poll covered the first two weeks of the regular season, and AWC went 4-0 during that stretch. Last week, the team beat Chandler-Gilbert 3-0 and Paradise Valley 2-1. The team opened the year with a 5-1 win over a traditionally strong Pima team.
The Lady Mats won 3-0 over South Mountain last night to move to 5-0 on the season. Sophomore forward Christiana Boateng has powered the team’s offense and leads the conference with eight goals through five matches. She also has three assists. Eight players have scored this season for AWC.
Three teams from the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference are ranked in the top 20. Phoenix College moved up to third this week, and Paradise Valley is 15th after starting the year unranked.
Tomorrow, the Lady Mats are headed to Phoenix College for an important match. On Saturday, the team comes back to Yuma to play Glendale at 7:00 p.m.
Tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. Children 12 and under and AWC students and staff (with current AWC ID) get in for FREE!
