YUMA, Ariz. – Five first quarter three’s and twenty second chance points by the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes were too much to overcome for the Lady Matadors Tuesday night in the 73-64 season finale loss.
Arizona Western received a bonus home game to close out the regular season due to unplayable conditions at Scottsdale.
But the Scottsdale sophomores raced out to an early lead making their first five baskets of the game on three-pointers and never allowed the Lady Matadors to pull within five despite a second half surge.
Mone Izumi had eight of the Lady Matadors 11 first quarter points and finished with 20 total.
Mar Ibern led Arizona Western with 22 points, connecting on four of six threes.
The Matadors did close the gap on three pointers in the second half, hitting on nine total for the game. Arizona Western outscored Scottsdale by 15 in the second half.
But Scottsdale maintained their advantage by outrebounding the Matadors 48-29 and converting that edge into 20 second chance points.
The Lady Matadors finish the season 11-19 overall and 9-13 in ACCAC play.
