YUMA, Ariz---Three early three's played off of stifling defense as the Arizona Western Lady Matadors (10-7 overall, 5-4 ACCAC) knocked off the Glendale Gauchos (7-10 overall, 0-9 ACCAC) Saturday afternoon at The House, for their fourth consecutive win.
Hanah Sims connected on her first three triples and finished with a game high sixteen points as AWC raced out to a lead they would never surrender. The 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter was fortified by by another 18 point quarter in the second, as Faith Silva began to connect from deep.
When the Matadors did miss, they were there on the offensive glass for 25 offensive rebounds led by Arianna Pagan's 7.Pagan finished with 10 rebounds as did Hind Djelloul and the Matadors held a healthy advantage on the boards in general. Harria Mendoza added eight points and nine rebounds in just 23 minutes as the Matadors led by 23 into the final quarter.
Arizona Western's offense was extremely precise in the second half as the Mats assisted on 18 of their 25 buckets leading to four more three's in the second half. AWC finished with 12 total three's for the game.
Silva finished with fourteen points for AWC as the only other Matador in double-figures for points.
Glendale was led by 14 points and 12 rebounds from Ali Denny. Zya Burk added ten points.
It's the fourth straight win for AWC and sets up a big division 1 showdown with Eastern Arizona Wednesday night at The House in Yuma at 5:30pm.
