YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Volleyball team (11-5, 3-1) came from behind to win the opening match of the weekend over Yavapai (5-6, 2-3) 3-1 on Friday evening in Prescott, Ariz., at Walraven Gymnasium.
Natalia Valencia-Gamboa led the Matadors offensively with 13 kills while Larrynn Joesph-Rodrigues recorded 11 kills as the Matadors won three consecutive sets after dropping the opener.
Arizona Western fell behind early, dropping the opening set 25-23 before coming back to take the second 25-22 and going up 2-1 with a 25-17 win in set three. The Matadors finished the match off with a 25-16 win in the final set.
Nehir Erimez had 19 assists and Andrea Krgovic had 14 while Ma'o Lauhingoa led the way with 14 digs and Joseph-Rodrigues finished off the double-double with 11 digs.
The Matadors are back in action on Saturday, September 28, taking on Yavapai at 1:00 pm at Walraven Gymnasium.
