Arizona Western lands four players on United Soccer Coaches DI Women's soccer All-America team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced the association's 2025 Junior College All-America Team for Divisions I and II on Tuesday.

Among the 56 Junior College Division I and Division II All-Americans (30 men, 26 women), two men and four women earn All-America recognition for a second time in their college careers. Arizona Western College have four women on the DI team, Linka Ono, Asa Yamazaki, Kei Yoneda and Kanon Ozaki

"It's nice to see," Arizona Western head coach Victor Verdugo said. "We're out here recruiting so it's nice to see."

For sophomore captain Linka Ono, this marks her second year in a row being named as an All-American.

"She was our captain coming in, she was the Region 1 player of the year, so, really no surprise there," Verdugo said. "I'm happy to see her get thge recognition. She was one of the cornerstones of the group that came in two years ago and now leaves us as a two-time All-American. She helped take us to two national finals so, very proud of her."

Joining Linka Ono on the team is the other Lady Matador team captain Kei Yoneda. Yoneda scored two goals in the national tournament including the game-winning goal in the semi-final match versus Seminole State.

"This is the one I'm most pleased about," Verdugo said. "As a centerback, a player on the defensive line, just doesn't get the credit. She should've been one last year. We talked as a staff and looking at the history of the program, she might go down as the best player to ever play here. Going to two national finals, in the summer was part of a national final-four, her impact in the national final, her goals and she anchored a back line that did not concede a goal in the national tournament. I'm very happy about her and she deserves all the national recognition she's finally getting."

Another player being honored for the second time is Asa Yamazaki

"She and Linka are kind of similar players," Verdugo said. "Two-time All-Americans and for us, just a core, a core group of her and Linka. Asa is a player that never came off the field, and she will be very difficult to replace. I'm very proud of her and she represents what an All-American should be."

The fourth Lady Matador to receive the honor is freshman Kanon Ozaki. The first-year player from Kanagawa, Japan, finished second on Arizona Western in goals scored and total points. She may not be the biggest or tallest player on the pitch, but dynamite comes in small packages.

"A very versatile player for us, was able to come out wide and played centrally when we needed her," Verdugo said. "She was able to get points in almost every game and was very crucial during the regular season. In the national tournament she was hampered by an injury which impacted her performance. She now will be our returning All-American. It will also be the first time in my three seasons here that I have the players with the most points on the team the year previous, coming back. She is one of those with Reina Kasano. I'm just happy Kanon got the recognition because she is one of the most dangerous players in the country."

Players on this year's United Soccer Coaches Junior College All-America Teams will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Philadelphia, Pa., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
