Lady Matadors land five on All-West Region Team
YUMA, Ariz. - The postseason honors continue to pour in for the Arizona Western women's soccer team. Iyan Hernandez, Kei Yoneda, Linka Ono, Asa Yamazaki and Kanon Ozaki were named to the United Soccer Coaches Junior College Division I All-West Region team.
"Just reflects the great group we had," Head Coach Victor Verdugo said. "The regard our program has as the best program in the west and one of the best in the country. Each of these players contributed to the continuous growth of the program and to once again be in a national final."
Arizona Western finished the season 17-2, received a #3 seed in the NJCAA DI National Tournament as an At-Large bid. The Lady Matadors outscored their opponents 9-0 on the national stage and fell in the championship game to Daytona State in a penalty kick shootout after two scoreless overtime periods.
"With an All-West and All-East team, I'm proud that our team is held in such a regard," Verdugo said. "It all goes to the players and what each has contributed to put the program as one of the best in the country."
