Peraza's goal shoots Lady Matadors past Yavapai for clutch road win
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Local product and former Central Spartan standout Ariana Peraza scored the lone goal at the 42-minute mark and ACCAC DI goalkeeper of the week, Iyan Hernandez, earned her sixth shutout of the season, as #2 Arizona Western Women's soccer team defeated Yavapai 1-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. For the Lady Matadors, it was their first action on the pitch since September 23rd, an 8-0 road win at Southern Nevada. The lone goal was Peraza's third of the season and the first game winner of her collegiate career. Hernandez faced a total of four shots on goal. The Lady Matadors peppered Yavapai goalkeeper Talon Bennett with a total of 15 shots on goal. With the win, Arizona Western improves to 8-0 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The Lady Matadors will next be in action on Tuesday, October 7th, when they travel to Thatcher, Arizona for a rematch with #9 Eastern Arizona. Arizona Western won the first meeting between the ACCAC rivals on September 13th, 2-1 at Matador Field. The trip to Eastern Arizona will be the fourth road game in a row for the Lady Matadors. Game time at John Mickelson Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m.
