Matadors strike early, cruise past Snow College in top 10 showdown
YUMA, Ariz. - The #2 ranked Arizona Western Women's Soccer team (3-0-0) scored three goals in the first 12 minutes versus #8 Snow College (2-1-0) and cruised to a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon at Matador Field.
The Matadors Karen Sodeyama scored in the second minute on an assist from Linka Ono. Arizona Western added a second goal at the six minute mark from Linka Ono, assisted by Kanon Ozaki. The third goal found the back of the net in the 12th minute as Ozaki beat the keeper with the assist awarded to Momo Chogyogi. Arizona Western cruised the rest of the way, outshooting Snow College 11-4 and earning a clean sheet for Iyan Hernandez.
"I think this group was waiting for a game like this, to come out against a high ranked opponent and from the get go, get going and the three goals show that we had the intensity and the urgency to get the result really quick and establish ourselves in the match early," Arizona Western Head Coach Victor Verdugo said. "This helps us prepare for our conference play in the next coming weeks and I think it should give the girls a lot of confidence that we have a good set of rotations. Today is all about the group and that's what stands out."
Up next for Arizona Western is a home match versus Arizona Christian on Friday, September 5th, at 7:00 p.m. at Matador Field.
