Bio

Head Coach Chelsea Dewey was named the ACCAC DI Coach of the Year in just her second season in charge and her first season since the interim tag was removed from her title before the 2024-25 season. Dewey is only the second head coach in program history, following in the steps of Patrick Cunningham who led the program for 24 years beginning in 1999.

Last season, Dewey guided the Lady Matadors to a 26-5 overall record including the program's third every NJCAA DI Women's Basketball National Tournament appearance, reaching the second round. In her two seasons as Arizona Western's head coach, Dewey has compiled a 47-15 record heading in to the 2025-26 season.

At the conclusion of the 2025 season, Chelsea Dewey was named the 2025 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Coach of the Year and received the Pat Summit Trophy after leading the Lady Matadors to a 25-win season and an ACCAC regular season championship.

The second-year head coach guided one of the top shooting teams in the nation, shooting 35.5 percent the three-point line, fifth best in NJCAA DI Women's Basketball.

Dewey becomes only the second ACCAC coach to win the WBCA Two-Year College Coach of the Year honor, joining Women's Basketball Hall of Fame member Lin Laursen of Central Arizona, who won the award three times, last doing so in 2005.

Before AWC, Coach Dewey spent three years at Missouri Western. The Missouri native remained in the Midwest as a Graduate Assistant for Missouri Western Women's Basketball after a successful playing career as a part of winning programs. Dewey was a part of one conference championship team at Division II Missouri Western State University, which included an NCAA Tournament appearance. She played a key role in those teams and earned Honorable Mention on the MIAA All-Conference list in 2015-2016, following that campaign with a First Team All-Conference selection in 2016-2017 in the MIAA.
