Doumbia named NJCAA women's basketball player of the week
Arizona Western women's basketball player Mable Doumbia is named this week's NJCAA DI player of the week. The Lady Matador sophomore earned the week 12 honor after averaging 17.5 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals per contest in two games last week. Doumbia recorded a 14-point, 15 rebound double-double against CSN and followed with 21 points, nine boards, and seven steals versus Yavapai.
"She's been good all year for us," Head Coach Chelsea Dewey said. "She's gotten more patient day-to-day in her game. She's the motor to this team. I'm really proud of her growth from year one to year two. She's taken on a lot of weight, done a lot of the heavy lifting with this team and has really embraced that role."
Doumbia has seven double doubles on the season included a 23 point, 10 rebound game versus #1 ranked Eastern Arizona on Wednesday, February 11th. Doumbia leads the Matadors with14.6 PPG, 8.0 RPB, 4.0 APG and 3.5 SPG. The Lady Matadors will next be in action this Saturday, February 14th, when they host Central Arizona at 2:00 pm MST in The House.
