Off to the races! Lady Matadors dominate Yavapai College 96-32 in ACCAC showdown
YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western College women's basketball team (15-8, 8-1) delivered a masterclass on both ends of the floor with a commanding 96-32 victory over Yavapai College on Saturday afternoon at The House. Arizona Western forced 38 turnovers, held the Roughriders to just 12 first-half points and cruised to their 15th win of the season in front of the home crowd.
Mable Doumbia led the way for the Matadors with 21 points, nine rebounds and seven steals, coming just shy of a triple-double in a dominant all-around effort. Doumbia shot 9-for-13 from the field and added five assists to her stat line, setting the tone for a relentless Arizona Western attack.
Arizona Western set an early tone with a 7-2 opening run, capped by a Doumbia jumper, and finished the first quarter with an 18-7 lead. The Matadors' defensive intensity ramped up in the second quarter, holding Yavapai to just five points while scoring 22 of their own to build a 40-12 cushion at halftime. Bench players Jessica Liena and Marta Vieira sparked a late-half surge that put the game out of reach early.
The Matadors continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, posting 27 points and extending their lead to 67-20 heading into the final period. Arizona Western never let up, pushing the tempo and attacking on both ends. By the final buzzer, the Matadors had forced 38 turnovers and racked up 21 steals, fueling an offense that finished with 54.5 percent shooting from the field and 10 three-pointers made.
Jessica Liena was perfect from the floor, finishing with 16 points on 8-for-8 shooting and four steals off the bench. Marta Vieira added 17 points and drained five three-pointers, while Chen Pan orchestrated the offense with six assists and three steals. Kimora Jenkins chipped in 10 points, including 5-for-6 from the line.
