Revueltas scores career-high 25 in Lady Matadors' 85-81 overtime loss to Pima

YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Lady Matadors Women's Basketball team (11-4, 4-4) fell in overtime to Pima (12-4, 5-3) 85-81 in overtime on Wednesday evening at Aztec Gymnasium in Tucson, Ariz.  

Rosa Revueltas scored a career-high 25 points, making four three-pointers, and recorded a team-high four steals in the loss.

Pima jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Revueltas hit a jumper to stop the run. The Lady Matadors cut the deficit to three points at 14-11 thanks to a Kristol Ayson three-pointer but the Aztecs closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, outscoring Arizona Western 20-11 in the first quarter.

The Lady Matadors fell down 13 at 29-16 in the second quarter before going on a 4-0 run to cut the Aztecs' lead to nine at 29-20. Revueltas trimmed the deficit to six points at 33-27 with a three-pointer with under two minutes to play in the half. Gretta Carollo knocked down a deep two just before the halftime buzzer to pull the Lady Matadors within seven at 40-33.

With the Lady Matadors trailing by nine halfway through the third quarter, an Ayson layup followed by a Revueltas steal and layup cut the deficit to five at 46-41. Revueltas pulled the Lady Matadors to within two on the next possession, hitting a three-pointer.

The Lady Matadors entered the fourth quarter trailing 52-48 before but went on a 10-4 run to take a 58-56 lead on a Maddison Zugna layup. Revueltas gave the Lady Matadors a four-point advantage by rattling in a three from the wing, extending the lead to 64-60 with under three minutes to play. Pima battled back to tie the game at 68-68 and missed a last-second shot at the rim, sending the game to overtime.

Arizona Western scored the first four points of the overtime period but Pima fought their way back, opening up a three-point lead at 82-79 with 41 seconds to go after a 5-0 run and went on to secure the win 85-81.

Along with Revueltas, Ayson, Okada, and Carollo, all scored in double figures with Ayson finishing as the team's second-leading scorer with 16. Okada scored 12 points in the loss while Carollo added 10.

 Lady Matadors will head to Thatcher, Ariz. on Saturday, January 14, for their first meeting with Eastern Arizona at 7:30 pm.
