Smith is expected to join the NCAA DI ranks with the USC Upstate Spartans in Spartanburg, South Carolina, for her junior season.

"I'm just glad to be here at Arizona Western and just be able to play softball every day," Smith said. "I feel like every season there are ups and downs. I had teammates supporting me the entire time, and I knew, like, no matter who was on the mound or whoever's was up to bat, like, they had my back, they had everyone's back on the team."

Sophomore Analy Trejo, who primarily played first base for the Lady Matadors, was named to the NJCAA DI Softball All-American Third Team. Trejo led the Lady Matadors in almost every offensive category including runs (62), hits (76), doubles (20), triples (2), HR (15), RBI (70), walks (26), BA (.481) and slugging % (.918). Trejo also finished ACCAC play in the top three categories of Batting average, HR & RBI heading into the national tournament.

"I know last year was a really rough year for me," Trejo said. "It's not easy being a freshman, but when you work hard enough, and you want something hard enough, and you care enough, good things will happen for you, always. And if you put in the work, then the work will pay off, always. It's all about how bad you want it."

Trego collected three hits in four games at the NJCAA DI Softball World Series. The sophomore from El Paso, Texas batting .363 on the national stage and drove in four runs.
