Regular season complete: Matadors Softball sweeps Yavapai on the road
Matadors cap regular season with dominant sweep at Yavapai
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - The Arizona Western softball team capped off the regular season with a four-game sweep on the road at Yavapai punctuated in commanding style Saturday with an 11-2 run-rule win in five innings and a 6-0 shutout. The Lady Matadors finish the regular season on a six-game winning streak and finish third in the ACCAC standings.
Game one saw the Lady Matadors set the tone early, erupting for four runs in the first inning before adding insurance in the second, fourth and fifth. Autumn Arriola was dominant in the circle, tossing a five-inning complete game with seven strikeouts and zero walks, and adding an RBI single at the plate. Offensively, Analy Trejo reached base three times, hammered a home run, walked twice, scored three runs and drove in three. Rauni Gallegos provided a multi-hit effort with a double, a homer, two runs and an RBI, while Alana McDonnell chipped in a two-run single to help enforce the run rule.
The sweep continued in game two as Sophie Campbell delivered a complete-game, four-hit shutout with five strikeouts and one walk. Aaliyah Soderlund led the way at the plate, tallying a home run, a double, two runs and an RBI. Kya Yun added a double, two runs and three times on base, while Corinna Talbot and Gallegos each swiped two bases to keep Yavapai under pressure. The Matadors capitalized on five opponent errors, scoring early and often to secure the 6-0 win and complete the sweep. With the victories, Arizona Western closes its campaign at 35-18 overall and 18-13 in conference play—finishing the regular season as one of the conference's hottest teams and demonstrating depth on the mound, power at the plate and aggressive base running.

With the regular season finished, the Lady Matadors now turn their attention to the Region I playoffs with a return trip to the national tournament on the line. Arizona Western beings the double elimination playoff tournament as the #3 seed in the four-team playoff. The College of Southern Nevada won the regular season crown and will be the host site next week. CSN will play Central Arizona and Arizona Western will face off against #2 seed Eastern Arizona.
