Softball sweeps Yavapai in road doubleheader, racks up 30 runs
PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Arizona Western Matadors Softball team (33-18) powered past the Yavapai Roughriders with a dominant doubleheader sweep, winning 15-3 in five innings and 15-2 in seven innings on Friday.
Myah Alexander had a spectacular showing, going 5-for-6 with eight runs batted in, two home runs and a double across both games. Analy Trejo added home runs in each contest, reached base six times and drove in six, while Jessica Smith fired a complete-game victory in the second game, allowing just one earned run and striking out five.
In Game 1, the Matadors jumped ahead early and broke things open with a seven-run third inning highlighted by home runs from Myah Alexander and Analy Trejo. Larissa Rueda scored three times and drove in three runs, while Léa Fréchette went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Brooklyn Cann earned the win in the circle, striking out four in five innings in a run-rule victory.
Game 2 was a close contest until the Matadors erupted for 11 runs in the seventh, fueled by home runs from Rauni Gallegos, Analy Trejo and Myah Alexander. Alissa Piñon contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Destiny Martinez added a double and a run scored as Arizona Western piled up 13 hits.
Gabby Weisser and Alana McDonnell each posted multi-hit efforts in Game 1, while Léa Fréchette finished with five hits and five runs scored across both games. The Matadors totaled 29 hits, five home runs and only one error in the sweep.
