After a scoreless first, the Matadors broke through in the second when Alissa Piñon drove in Nyomi Houston for the game's first run. Arizona Western exploded for five runs in the third, highlighted by Soderlund's RBI double and RBI singles from Analy Trejo and Avery Rodriguez.

The offense kept rolling in the fourth as Soderlund and Riley Purdy delivered back-to-back doubles, while Piñon drove home another run to build a 10-0 lead. Smith finished the shutout in the fifth, closing out the run-rule victory.
