Arizona Western lands two local athletes to join Matador's men's soccer team
YUMA, Ariz. - The Arizona Western men's soccer team will infuse some local talent when the Matadors take the pitch for the 2026-27 season. Kofa high school standout Leonel Rodriguez and Cibola's Adrian Luna will join NJCAA power Arizona Western this fall.
"Leo is a great kid," Arizona Western men's soccer head coach Kenny Dale said. "I've watched him play for the last couple of years. We're really excited about him. He's an attacking player and scores a lot of goals for Kofa."
The Kofa senior forward has showcased his skills all season, leading with talent, effort, and heart as he closes out his high school career. His impact on the field and dedication to the game have made him a key part of the Kings' program.
The second local product is Cibola's Adrian Luna, a senior defender for the Raiders who will bring with him a unique skill set.
"He's kind of a left back, center back, he's left footed," Dale said. "Good leadership qualities, we've been watching him for a few years as well. Those two guys we feel can come in and make an impact."
Both athletes will receive full scholarships from Arizona Western and join the Matadors after the conclusion of their senior year of high school.
"We're excited to have them," Dale said. "Any players have the opportunity for a tryout, they just need to reach out to me, and we'll take it from there."
