Matadors prevail in defensive battle, edge past Eastern Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. - Aiki Sadaoka scored the game's lone goal at the 51-minute mark as the #10 ranked Arizona Western Men's soccer team survived a defensive brawl at Matador Field versus Eastern Arizona on Saturday night.

They are a challenging opponent," AWC Head Coach Kenny Dale said. "I was really impressed with their guys at the back and our guys at the back. I mean, our guys won almost every header and every long ball that was served forward so, I was really impressed with our back four."

After a scoreless first half, Aiki Sadaoka finally broke the scoring drought in the 51st minute, with the assist going to Abdou Moursali. Despite the one goal scored, Arizona Western had multiple chances to score but couldn't get much by goalie Bruno Santos.

"I think our quality in front of the goal needs to improve," Dale said. "Guys are taking too many touches and spinning around and nobody just wants to shoot the ball. Hopefully we can work on that this coming week."

With the win, the Matadors have won four in a row and improved to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in ACCAC play. They'll have a week to work on their offensive attack, they'll next be in action on Saturday, September 20th, against Southwestern College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Matador Field.
