Matadors use strong second half to surge past Saints

YUMA, Ariz. - The #7 ranked Arizona Western Men's Soccer team scored seven second half goals en route to a 10-0 win over Community Christian on Saturday night at Matador Field. The Saints arrived with only 11 players on the roster and raised some eyebrows by taking a 3-0 score into the half.

"I liked our professionalism and our patience," AWC Head Coach Kenny Dale said. "I like'd our willingness to score goals collectively. We didn't have just one guy running around trying to do everything himself."

The Matadors score sheet refelcted Coach Dale's thoughts with forward Roussel Laity netting the game's first goal at the seven minute mark with the assist coming from defender Milton Kapaya. The Matadors second goal at the 31 minute mark also had a helper as forward Noah Naus found the back of the net with the assist awarded to Shota Kotera. Naus added a second goal just before the half at the 44 minute mark to give the Matadors the 3-0 lead at the half.

"I was impressed with the job Coach Gabriel Mayries has done with that program," Dale said. "I was impressed with his group and I was pleased with the way we dealt with it. They defended well."

The Matadors opened the flood gates in the second half with goals from Jacob Segal, Jackson George, Lucas Di Almeida, local San Luis native Walter Sanchez, Adam Salma and two goals from Enzo Manga. Takuto Yamaguchi also found himself on the score sheet with an assist in the second half.

Arizona Western will next open conference play on Tuesday, September 9th, when they host Yavapai at Matador Field at 7:00 p.m.
