Matadors survive sluggish start, bounce Scottsdale on the road

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Arizona Western men's soccer team (2-1-0) survived a sluggish start on the road against Scottsdale (0-1) and a flurry of yellow cards handed out to both squads en route to a 2-0 win Saturday evening against the Fighting Artichokes.

It was the season and home opener for Scottsdale Community College.

Abdou Moursali got the Matadors on the board in the 61st minute and added the clincher at the 82nd minute. Both goals assisted by Aiki Sadaoka.

"Abdou Moursali really did well for himself tonight and for the team," Arizona Western Head Coach Kenny Dale said. "Our back line was outstanding in the air winning header after header."

A total of 10 yellow cards were handed out in the contest, five to each team.

"We need to maintain a little more self disipline as it relates to yellow cards," Dale said. "We got too many of those."

The Matadors will next be in action on Thursday, September 4th, when they return home to Matador Field and host Mt. San Antonio College at 7:00 p.m.
