Hargrove named NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week

YUMA, Ariz. – Men's Basketball sophomore Marquis Hargrove earned his second honor of the week on Wednesday, being named NJCAA DI Men's Basketball National Player of the Week after scoring 54 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a pair of wins last week.

Hargrove scored 27 points in back-to-back games to lead the Matadors to home wins over Central Arizona and Chandler-Gilbert this past week. The Sacramento, Calif. native started the week by going 9-for-15 from the field and hitting a pair of three-pointers to help the Matadors fend off Central Arizona 86-76. Hargrove converted on 7-of-10 from the free throw line to help seal the win and set a new career-high of 27 points.

In the second game of the week, Hargrove matched his career-high with his second straight 27-point performance, tying a season-high with five made three-pointers. Hargrove recorded three steals and for the second straight game, grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Hargrove becomes the first Arizona Western student-athlete to receive a national player of the week honor since current teammate Evan Butts was named NJCAA DI Men's Basketball National Player of the Week during the 2021-22 season.

Hargrove is averaging a career-best 13.7 points per game through 25 games this season and is shooting 35.8 percent from three while averaging 2.0 steals per game.
