Matador baseball sends eight players to four-year schools
Eight players are moving on to four-year schools with two other players still deciding their landing spots
YUMA, Ariz. - Eight members of the Arizona Western baseball team are heading to four-year schools and two more are deciding their landing spots at the next level. Arizona Western finished 39-15 in head coach Jon Wente's first season and third overall in the ACCAC standings. Players moving on include...
Parker Husu-Nicholls State (DI)
Thijs Helms-Tennessee Tech (DI)
Anthony Lucero-NW Oklahoma St. (DII)
Gregory Mateo-East Stroudsburg University (DII)
Trace Garrison-Bryan College (NAIA)
Dan Kawanishi-Cumberland University (NAIA)
Luis Angulo-LSU Shreveport (NAIA)
Gerry Castro-St. Thomas in Miami (NAIA)
Castro still has a chance to sign with a DI program according to Coach Wente.
"Very excited for our players who have found their four-year homes," Coach Wente said. "We are very proud of the hard work they have put in both on and off the field. This group won over 70 games in their career here at AWC and hopefully they will continue to work on and off the field so they can pave the way for more Matadors to move on. This group was a special group that bought in and played the game the right way."
The Arizona Western baseball signing class could soon hit double digits as catchers Elian Olmos and Victor Lopez are still trying to decide what is next for them. Once they sign somewhere, the Matador sophomores landing at four-year schools could reach up to 10.
