Matadors win streak snapped with road loss to rival Cochise College
DOUGLAS, Ariz. -- The No. 15 Arizona Western Matadors Baseball team (14-2, 0-1) saw its 14-game winning streak snapped in a 16-8 loss to the No. 22 Cochise College Apaches on Friday afternoon in the season ACCAC opener for the Mats.
After Cochise took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Matadors' offense erupted for six runs in the top of the third to jump out to a 6-1 advantage. The lead was short-lived as the Apaches answered immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to 6-5.
Cochise seized control in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to flip the score and take a 10-6 lead. The Apaches continued to apply pressure, adding four runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth inning to secure the victory in the high-scoring affair.
Despite the loss, several Matadors produced at the plate. Ten Shindo reached base four times, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks and two runs scored. Luis Acosta and Jamie Beerman each collected two hits, while Brayden Hibler led the team with two RBIs. The Matadors played a clean defensive game, committing no errors.

The Matadors will look to bounce back on Saturday, Feb. 28, as they continue their series against Cochise College with a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for a noon first pitch in Douglas, Ariz.
