    TOPAWA, Ariz. – After hitting 15 three’s in a 17-point win on Wednesday, the Arizona Western College men’s basketball team one-upped itself on Saturday night. The Mats (7-5 overall, 2-2 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) drilled 19 three’s in a 128-84 win at Tohono O’odham Community College (2-9 overall, 0-5 ACCAC). AWC’s previous best earlier this season was 16 three’s at Southern Idaho in a loss.

    Dominant

    TOPAWA, Ariz. – For four quarters, the Arizona Western College (8-4 overall, 3-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) women’s basketball team dominated Tohono O’odham Community College (0-7 overall, 0-5 ACCAC) on Saturday night. The Lady Mats won all four quarters and cruised to a 96-33 win.

    All 14 players that played for AWC scored, and five players hit double figures. Theyoung Puoy led the way with 15 points, and Raven Roberts added 14.

    Home Sweet Home

    YUMA, Ariz. – Wednesday night the Arizona Western College men’s basketball team snapped out of a funk in a big way. AWC (6-5 overall, 1-2 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) had dropped its first two conference games and had lost five of six. With Cochise College (8-1 overall, 3-1 ACCAC) in town, the Mats erupted and blasted the Apaches 101-84. AWC never trailed and led by as much as 29 during the second half. Five players scored in double figures for the Mats.

    Opening Blues

    YUMA, Ariz. – First quarter blues put the Arizona Western College women’s basketball team down double digits on Wednesday night, and the Lady Mats (7-4 overall, 2-1 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference) couldn’t scrap their way out of it. AWC lost 68-50 to Cochise College (8-2 overall, 3-1 ACCAC) after getting outscored 28-13 in the first quarter.

    Final Tally

    YUMA, Ariz. – For the second season in a row, the Arizona Western College football team dropped to third in the final NJCAA rankings. The Mats fell in the NJCAA Football Championship to top-ranked East Mississippi Community College 31-28 on Sunday in the Mississippi Bowl.

    Inches

    PERKINSTON, Miss. – Close football games come down to inches one way or another. One fourth down conversion by the slimmest of margins proved to be the difference in the fourth quarter as first-ranked East Mississippi Community College (11-1 overall) held off second-ranked Arizona Western College (9-1 overall) 31-28 in the NJCAA Football Championship Game at the Mississippi Bowl.

    Day 2: Community Service

    GULFPORT, Miss. – One of the best parts of the bowl experience is the chance to give back in the community. The Arizona Western College football team did that earlier this afternoon with a visit to the Gulfport Armed Forces Retirement Home with the Lady Matador cheer and dance teams.

    Getting Ready

    GULFPORT, Miss. – Let the festivities and fun begin! The second-ranked Arizona Western College football team landed in Gulfport, Miss. today for the NJCAA Football Championship Game at the tenth Mississippi Bowl on Sunday. The Mats take on first-ranked East Mississippi on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Yuma time, and the game will be broadcast on AM 1320 KAWC (kawc.org).
