YUMA, Ariz---The Arizona Western College Matador’s (3-1-1) offense has torched the nets during their current three game win streak racking up 28 goals in their first victories of the season.
AWC will look to continue the hot streak when they host the Glendale Community College Gauchos (0-4) in a non-conference match 7:00pm on Thursday, September 12th on the Matador Soccer Field.
The Matadors have produced the high number of goals thanks to a ridiculous amount of shots on goal. The Mat’s 93 shots through five matches is the 2nd most in the ACCAC, behind the 136 taken by Yavapai. That number is boosted by the 42 shots AWC took last week against South Mountain, more than seven different ACCAC opponents have registered all season.
Thirteen different Matadors have already tallied goals this season, seven have multiple goals, showing off the wide range of attacking options.
Their opponents from Glendale have found goals to be at a premium, only finding the net once through their four losses. The lack of finishing has spoiled some excellent efforts from their defense as the Gauchos have surrendered just nine goals in the four losses thanks to 22 saves by their keepers Jose Valenzuela and Jason Rodriguez.
The Matadors have their sights set on continuing both trends when they host the Gauchos Thursday night at 7:00pm, immediately following the Women’s match.
Tickets are just $5 for the game. Students enter free with I.D. Both games will be streamed via Facebook Live @AWCMatadorAthletics.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
