YUMA, Ariz. – Two matches, two wins and two shutouts for Heriberto Ruiz last week. The sophomore goalkeeper was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Keeper of the Week for his work in a pair of wins.

Ruiz shut out Chandler-Gilbert 1-0 and Paradise Valley 6-0 during the week. He had four saves against Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday. Against Paradise Valley, Ruiz had three saves and stopped a penalty kick.

Thanks, in part, to Ruiz, the Mats started the season with four straight shutouts. That marked the longest stretch to start a season without conceding a goal.

For the year, Ruiz is 4-0 with 14 saves. The Mats won 3-1 against South Mountain to snap the scoreless streak last night, but AWC is 5-0 to start the year.

AWC heads to Phoenix College tomorrow for a big conference road test. The match will start at 4:30 p.m.

Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
