YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western men’s soccer team moved up a couple of spots in the latest NJCAA poll that was released earlier this morning. The Mats climbed to 15th after going 1-0-1 this past week.
AWC tied Phoenix College 0-0 in an exciting, scoreless matchup in Yuma on Saturday night that featured two NJCAA Top 20 teams. Earlier in the week, AWC beat GateWay. A third match was postponed due to lightning and will be made up this week.
On the season, the Mats are 3-0-2 overall and in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. AWC hasn’t conceded a goal since its season opener at Glendale.
The Matadors are one of four ranked teams from the incredibly competitive ACCAC. Yavapai (third), Phoenix (seventh) and Pima (12th) are also ranked. Monroe (first), Daytona State (second), Eastern Florida State (fourth) and Tyler finish out the top five.
AWC hosts Scottsdale Community College this evening at 7:00 p.m. at the AWC Soccer Field. Tickets are only $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and military members. Children 12 and under and AWC students and staff (with current school ID) get in for FREE!
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma. AWC leads the state in enrollment growth over the past 10 years and handed out more than 2,300 certificates and degrees in 2016-17.
