YUMA, Ariz. – For the eighth straight season, the Arizona Western men’s soccer team grabbed a spot in the NJCAA Preseason Poll. The Mats are 15th in the poll that was released today.
“It is a great honor to be recognized as a top national level men’s soccer program,” said AWC head coach Kenny Dale. “I believe our current team will be worthy of the status and an exciting group to watch. I am looking forward to the season.”
Arizona Western has one week left before opening the regular season on the road at Glendale next Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
This week, the team has two scrimmages. First, AWC travels to Imperial Valley on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, the Mats will take on the Matador Alumni at the AWC Soccer Field at 7:00 pm (FREE ADMISSION!).
The Mats went 15-3-3 last season and made it to the Region I Semifinals after qualifying for the playoffs for the ninth straight season. A record 10 players from that team signed with four-year schools. Now the team is aiming for its 10th straight trip to the postseason.
AWC is one of four teams from the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference that was ranked. Yavapai (ninth), Pima (13th) and Phoenix (17th) also were in the top 20.
