Nationally ranked soccer programs back at home Saturday

YUMA, Ariz. - Both the Arizona Western College Matadors' men's and women's soccer teams return home Saturday for an ACCAC matchup with Glendale at 4:30 and 7:00 pm at Matador Soccer Field on the campus of Arizona Western College.

Both programs are currently ranked in the NJCAA polls with the Matadors sitting at No. 10 in the latest release of the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer poll while the Lady Matadors are at No. 16 in the NJCAA DI Women's Soccer poll. 

Men's soccer has won five games in a row after a 3-0 win over GateWay in Mesa on Tuesday night and is 2-0 in ACCAC play, sitting in a three-way tie at the top of the conference with Phoenix and Pima. The Matadors will welcome a Glendale team that is off to a 3-3-1 start, sitting just behind the trio at the top of the ACCAC with a 1-0-1 record, coming off a 2-1 win over Chandler-Gilbert on Tuesday night. 

The Matadors are flying high offensively, scoring 34 goals over the course of the five-game winning streak while outscoring opponents 34-8. Overall this season, the Mats lead the ACCAC in goals scored, scoring 38 goals through the first seven games of the season.

The Lady Matadors are also entering Saturday's conference showdown on a winning streak, having won four consecutive games after beating GateWay 8-0 in Mesa on Tuesday. The Mats' have not allowed a goal in two games, outscoring their opponents 28-0 over the last two games. 

Just like the men, the Lady Matadors are also in a three-way tie at the top of the ACCAC, owning the same 2-0 record as Pima and Phoenix. Glendale will enter play on Saturday with an 0-4 record and coming off a 6-0 loss to Chandler-Gilbert. 

The ACCAC doubleheader will get underway with the Arizona Western men's soccer team kicking off at 4:30 pm before the Lady Matadors get started at 7:00 pm at Matadors Soccer Field. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for senior citizens while Arizona Western College students AWC ID.
