YUMA, Ariz. –Arizona Western held a block party, registering eight rejections and staved off Phoenix College 95-87 Wednesday night.
Abderrahmane Hailouf and Andre Allen combined for seven of the Matadors eight blocks and 34 total points as AWC snapped the Bears five game win streak.
Hailouf was fantastic both in and off paper. His 13 points, 14 boards, and 4 blocks kept the Matadors on attack all night, but even when he didn’t register a block he forced the Bears into tough shots and contributed to Phoenix staying under 40% from the field.
Allen was the high point man with 21 for the Mats, adding 8 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive end.
Alfonso Plummer had 17 points while Cash Williams and Bryson Langdon rounded out the starting five all in double figures with 14 and 13 respectively.
The Matadors jostled with the Bears early before Phoenix Forward Darius Goudeau picked up his third foul in just nine minutes of play.
With Goudeau forced to the bench, the Matadors became hyperactive in transition and built an 11 point half-time advantage. Goudeau picked up his fourth foul minutes into the second half.
AWC never could quite pull away despite building a 15 point lead at 50-35. But Phoenix pulled tight and Goudeau finished with an impressive 24 points in 25 minutes on the floor, thanks to 6 three pointers on 13 attempts.
The Matadors improve to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in ACCAC play. They hit the road on Saturday to take on Glendale at 4pm. The game can be heard on AM 560 KBLU.
