CHANDLER, Ariz---Down by seven at the break, the Arizona Western Matadors (15-10 overall, 9-8 ACCAC) snapped a three-game losing streak by knocking off Chandler Gilbert (8-17 overall, 2-15 ACCAC) 51-47 in Chandler Saturday afternoon.
The Matadors were already limited with eight players when an injury in the starting lineup kept Jalen Townsell out for the remainder of the game.
Arizona Western's sluggish start kept them at just 20 points in the first half as the two teams played a similarly defensive battle to their first meeting in December.
But Cash Williams' 15 and Jordan Green's 19 sparked the offense enough to slip by the Coyotes in the second half.
Green was particularly efficient hitting 8 of his 11 shots.
Daniel Kiely led the Matadors on the boards with 10.
Arizona Western continues on the road at South Mountain on Wednesday at 7:30pm
