YUMA, Ariz---The Arizona Western Matadors were, once again, well represented as the 2019 awards and recognition from the NJCAA capped off with the announcement of the NJCAA All-Academic teams and individual teams.
Four Matador teams; Women’s Soccer, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, and Women’s Basketball all qualified for team of the year awards with cumulative GPA’s above 3.0.
The team efforts were also anchored by 24 Matador student-athletes qualifying for NJCAA All-Academic Teams.
Five Mats reached the 4.0 plateau for the First Team including; Justin Greene-Baseball, Sagi Badash, Victor Leon and Humberto Morales-Men’s Soccer, and Nicole Moran-Softball.
Four More Matadors landed on the Second team with GPA ranging from 3.8 to 3.99. The Matador representation is Sammy Hackl- Baseball, Abderrahmane Hailouf- Men’s Basketball, Vinyet Garcia- Women’s Basketball, and Kelsey Macias- Women’s Soccer.
Finally, fifteen Matadors finished the year with Third-Team NJCAA All-Academic recognition; Alfonso Plummer- Men’s Basketball, Leonardo Amaral and Erikk Ordonez- Men’s Soccer, Jordyn Mantz and Kyndal Ricks- Women’s Basketball, Valeria Carrera, Elizabeth Ephraim, Cato Hom, Maesy Macias, Olivia Schellekens, and Makayla Zendejas- Women’s Soccer, and Melissa Garciglia Banuelos, Haylee Paladini, Jovana Papaz, and Lisbeth Rosario Martinez- Volleyball.
Arizona Western College is one of the top community colleges in Arizona. The college boasts partnerships with all three state universities that include face-to-face classes in Yuma.
