YUMA, Ariz--It took a couple innings, but the Arizona Western offense rolled late in game one and struck quickly in game two propelling the Arizona Western Matadors (8-2 overall) to 7-2 and 3-0 wins over Northeastern Junior College (5-4 overall) Saturday afternoon at Kammann Field.
Jarrod Belbin's sacrifice fly in the third opened the scoring to plate Daniel Gonzalez but the Matadors added two more on Juan Salazar's two-run homer in the fourth.
Northeastern scratched across a run against Elvis Parra in the fifth.
Delano Selassa drove in two more runs with a double in the bottom of the inning.
After Northeastern scored an unearned run against the Matador bullpen in the sixth, the Mats plated two more on singles from Dylan Edmands and Oliver Frias.
Francisco Gonzalez finished off his second inning of work to secure the win for Arizona Western.
Game 2 saw the Matadors hand Devin Contreras an early lead as Selassa doubled home a run in the first before scoring on JC Navarro's single.
Contreras made that hold up with seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
Arizona Western and Northeastern complete the four-game series Sunday with a single game scheduled for Noon.
